Mike is a very passionate person for helping others since he got sober after 20+ yrs of poly substance abuse. Mike has dedicated his time and efforts into being a mental health/addictions/anti bullying/abuse advocate.

-Winner of the Lieutenant Governor’s True Grit Award 2018.

-Winner of the Soul of Airdrie Award 2017.

(Airdrie’s volunteer of the year awards).

Accomplishments:

-Voted Best Citizen-Airdrie’s City View Reader’s Choice Awards. 2017.

-News Maker of the year 2017.

-Parade Marshal for Airdrie’s 2017 Santa Parade.

-Walked 1021 km with 5lb ball and chain for Mike’s March for Mental Health and raised awareness and money for mental health.

-Has raised over $60000 in 5 yrs for 10 different charities.

-Founder of The Sober Friends Society. 

Barry is secretary and board member of The Sober Friends Society. Barry’s responsibilities include keeping the books.  being the  the Secretary for board meetings as well as assisting in fund raising events and maintaining the website.. Barry has been leading the SMART Recovery group in Airdrie for over 9 years. He also has an Addiction Studies certificate from Mount Royal University. Barry has a passion to assist individuals who have mental health and addiction issues. Barry also has had over 35 years of management experience. He was a warehouse manager, senior purchasing agent and an IT manger.
