The Sober friends Society is a registered non-profit organization focused on supporting the well being of people with addiction issues that have made the choice to get clean/sober. We want to become the central hub for sobriety in Airdrie which includes a volunteer crew of people in recovery and a board room for a variety of support groups such as SMART recovery, XA groups, and grief recovery groups. We also want to provide emergency funding for treatment centres for those who cannot afford it. We want to give people a safe, fun, and educational space to go without fear of judgement or bad influences. We want to be there to assist people transition from an unmanageable life of chaos, despair, and darkness to one of sobriety, happiness, success and friendship. We will have staff on site that have experience with addictions themselves that will be available to talk to. We would also like to have addiction councillors or peer support workers on site as well. We want to offer arts and crafts classes, meditation/ yoga/exercise/nutrition sessions, board game nights, speakers meetings, sober social gatherings like dances and dinners, group walks, and other activities which will assist in their continued success and enjoyment of a life in recovery. Think Boys and Girls club except it’s geared towards adults in recovery. Our main and long-term goal is to raise enough money for a Sober Friends Clubhouse.
The demographic sobriety community is inclusive of all and exclusive of none and reaches out to support all races, denominations and genders.
*The need was identified for those individuals to have a place in the community that they could physically be present with one another outside of the meeting places that they attend that are specific to addiction recover eg AA NA CA meetings. The utility of these meetings end at the conclusion of the meeting leaving the participants with limited places and opportunity to consistently gather in a safe a sobriety related environment. ongoing sobriety may be enhanced in an environment specifically established for this purpose that provides ongoing support, recreation, and life skills building opportunities
